What’s it like to teach at United Schools Network?

Here are some things that most teachers at each of our schools will do throughout a typical day. Actual times and responsibilities will vary by school and role.

A Day in the Life

Arrival

The first stop is often to the teacher workroom to check mail. You’ll then unpack, answer emails, prep any final materials for the day, and then head over to morning huddle.

Huddle

Our day starts with Morning Huddle, a 5-10 minute meeting to go over the day's announcements and responsibilities, share highlights and success stories, give shout-outs to team members and start the day on the right foot.

Instruction

At the elementary school you will preview the day and teach social-emotional skills. At the middle school, you'll lead an advisory period with your scholars, check in on homework, and teach character lessons.

Lunch

Our schools have free breakfast and lunch for all students through Arlene’s Cuisine. Most teachers have responsibilities during lunch, whether it’s supporting in the cafeteria, facilitating orderly lunch procedures, holding homework center, or staffing the playground during recess.

Dismissal

Each afternoon, staff members are proactively involved in dismissal to ensure scholars transition home safely. Some of the duties include helping scholars onto buses, greeting families who come to pick up their scholars, or staffing the crosswalk to help scholars who walk home.
